Launch Services
The Division operates a 24-hour motor launch service from Dover with various craft capable of port duties such as towing and mooring. One of our craft is fully certificated to the Merchant Shipping (Pilot Boat) Regulations 1991 for shipping and landing pilots. This service is well used to land over-carried pilots from ports such as Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Medway, Harwich, Vlissingen and Antwerp. With more than 400 merchant vessels using the Dover Strait everyday, these craft are also used for handling crew changes, medical evacuations, shipping charts and stores and providing any other assistance to vessels whilst minimising their deviation off the shipping lanes.
